Chapter 1
Predictions: The boys are going to find the other kids and set up camp. Ralph is going to be the one to take charge and instruct.
Images:
I imagined a hot jungle when Golding described the island.
When Ralph and Piggy arrived to the beach, the first thing they saw was the beautiful blue lagoon.
To call all the boys on the island together, Ralph and Piggy found a conch shell and blew it. The conch shell was used every time to call the boys together.
Clarify: Piggy kept trying to get Ralph's attention because Piggy wants Ralph to ask what his name is. The scar is the mark that they plane made on the island in the middle of the jungle. They boys use to the conch shell to signal everyone for meetings and assemblies.
Try: What is the scar? When Piggy is talking about the pilot and when they will be rescued, who is he referring to as dead? Why don't any of the boys seem upset about the place crash? Why aren't any of the boys physically hurt.
Use: I have gone to Florida every year since I was little and the warm weather and humidity in Florida seems similar to the weather you would experience on the Island.
Review: In Chapter 1, a plane full of boys crashes into an island. Two boys, Ralph and Piggy find each other and use a conch shell summon all of the other boys that were on the plane. All of the boys gather on a beach and vote Ralph as leader. Ralph, Jack, and Simon go exploring to figure out whether or not they are on an island. They find out that they are on an island and that it is uninhibited. On the long trip back, they find a pig caught in some vines, but Jack could not find the courage to kill it.
