Night Section 7
Summary: The prisoners were packed into train cars once again filled with hundreds of people. Due to the fact that there is no water or food, people resort to snow. One day, when the train stopped for water, a German worker threw a loaf of bread onto the train. Hundreds of prisoners fought over the loaf of bread just to get a small ration of it. A young boy even kills his own father just to get a small ration of bread. Any people that are dead on the trains are to be thrown out. Guards think that Elie's father is dead, but he really isn't so Elie has to slap him across the face a few times in order to wake him up. The journey lasts for 10 days, and then they arrive at Buchenwald.
Predictions: Elie's father will not make it much longer. Many people are going to die due to starvation and hypothermia.
Images: Below, is a picture of the gate that leads to the camp Buchenwald.
Clarify: The German worker threw the loaf of bread onto the train just because he wanted to see the prisoners fight over it for entertainment.
Try: Were there any camps that would have been closer than Buchenwald? How could someone kill their own father for a small piece of bread?
Use: I have fought with my parents and brother and sister before over something like the last roll at dinner, but I would never kill any of them for it.
Review: The prisoners continue their journey to Buchenwald. They have no source of food, so they have to eat snow. They finally arrive at Buchenwald, but only a dozen get off, when there were hundreds that got on.
