Night Section 1
Summary: In the first section of night, we are introduced to Elie and his family. We learn about Elie's life as a Jew and about a very important person in Elie's life, Moche The Beadle. Moche taugh Elie a lot, but he was sent away one day to a camp and years later he was released. Moche came back telling people how horrible the camp was and that they should be scared of what would be in store for them. Of course, no one listened and thought that Moche was crazy. A few years later in the Spring of 1944, Hitler becomes part of the picture. Sooner than later, the German soldiers, other wise known as the Nazis, came around and the race of death for the Jews began. The Jews were evacuated in groups to concentration camps and because they could not ship off all the Jews at once, they formed ghettos for the Jews to live in. They made rules for the Jews that stated that the Jews were not allowed to: have any objects of value, go into reasturants, travel in the railway, attend the synagauge, or go out in the street after 6. Along with all these rules, they must wear a yellow star at all time so that the Nazi's could identify them. Lastly, when it came time for Elie and his family to leave the ghetto, they were cramed into railway cars full of 100s of other Jews and then deported to concentration camps.
Predictions: A lot of the Jews aren't going to make it to the end of the Holocaust. The Jews aren't allowed to keep any items of value because the Nazis want all of their objects so that they can make some sort of profit off of them.
Images: Here, Jews are boarding trains that are deporting for concentration camps.
Clarify: Hitler and his army want to wipe out the whole entire Jewish population, so he deports all Jews to concentration camps. At these concentration camps, the Jews are forced to work or put to death.
Try: Why all of a sudden were the Jews taken away? How many different concentration camps were there?
Use: I have been forced to do things that I don't want to do all through out my life. I have also been crammed into a car full of people and driven a long distance.
Review: The Jews are forced to leave their homes and go to concentration camps. They are on the race to death.
