Predictions: The choir boys hurt Percival but not on purpose. The person in the parachute is going to help get the boys rescued. Sam and Eric see a monster. Ralph will be eaten by the beast and never come back. There really isn't any type of beast, it's just a figment of everyone's imagination.
Images:
While Sam and Eric are watching, they look out and see the moon and it's reflection on the water.
At sunrise, Ralph called a meeting.
While looking for the beast, the boys came across a cave made of pink granite.
Clarify: Sam and Eric think that the figure with the parachute is the beast because they figure with the parachute is the beast because the figure is dead but every time the wind blows, it blows the body of the figure upward and downward. Therefore, Sam and Eric confuse this with a monster.
Try: What does "waxy" mean? Who is the person with the parachute? Are they alive? Why does everyone call Sam and Eric, "Samneric"? What was the significance of the cave? Where does the monster live? Are Jack and Ralph friends now?
Use: When you are the captain of a team or the leader of a group, it is your responsibility to take care of your teammates or your group members. This means doing the things that no one else wants to do, just like Ralph did. I have, plenty of times, had to step up and do things that I didn't want to do.
Review: In Chapter 6, Ralph, Simon and Piggy go and help Piggy who had just been hurt. Then they all attempt to fall asleep. As Sam and Eric are on watch duty, they fight a fire and think that they see a beast, but it really is just a dead pilot in a parachute coming down from the sky. So, Ralph calls another assembly and he and the choir boys head out on a trip to find where the beast lives. But, they were not very successful and they ended up just finding a cave instead. While the boys are on the mountain in the cave Ralph realizes that yet again the fire (smoke) can not be seen by ship. So, Ralph yells at the boys to go and maje sure that the fire signal is working properly.
