Predictions: Robert passed out and was found by the farmer in the pasture. Robert is going to get in a lot of trouble because he skipped school and made a mess of things. Robert's family owns a pig farm. Robert isn't going to be able to go do anything for a long time due to his injuries.
Images:
This image represents how Robert felt when he was hurt. I could hear and he understood that things were happening around him, but he could not see nor speak. All Robert saw was blackness.
These pricker bushes are similar to the ones that Robert was dragged through. Pricker bushes can cause a lot of damage, if you are not careful.
Clarify: Robert is in pain because while helping a cow give birth, he was dragged through prickers. When he pulled the goiter out of the cow's throat, the cow bit down hard on his arm and would not let go.
Try: How exactly did the cow break Robert's arm? Why wasn't Farmer Tanner mad at Robert? How is Robert going to help out around the farm with a broken arm?
Use: When I was very little, I once broke my arm. I have never experienced such pain in my whole entire life. My arm hurts now just thinking about it.
Review: In this chapter, Robert is receiving treatment for his injuries that he got when his neighbor's cow, Apron, dragged him through the pasture and bit him arm. Robert's mother and aunt sewed him up and washed him off. His father, although, is not very pleased with the fact that Robert skipped school, but he is glad that Robert is all right.
