Predictions: Percival won't last much longer on the island because of stress and illusions. The ship will see the boys and turn back around. There will be another ship soon. Ralph is going to be very mad at Jack.
Images:
The boys awake to a beautiful sunrise after a long night.
To pass the time, some of the littluns make sandcastles. They have nothing better to do, because they are too young to do anything else so they all take to building sandcastles.
While Jack and his choir boys are out hunting, they forgot to keep the fire going. And while they were hunting a ship passed by but did not see the smoke signal that they boys had made because there no longer was a fire to make a smoke signal.
Clarify: Mainly the little boys are sad and miss home, that is why a few cry all the time. The way the boys use to live is very different from the way that they had to live on the island. It was very hard for most of the boys to adapt to the new ways of life, such as: no beds, no bathrooms, and less food.
Try: Why don't any of the older boys comfort the younger ones? How do the illusions on the island work? What was the point of Roger throwing the rocks? Why is everyone so mean to Piggy?
Use: I understand why Ralph is so upset with Jack and the choirboys. I know what it feels like to work so hard at something and then have it all go to waste due to the fault(s) of another person. The mistake that Jack made could be the difference between life and death for the boys/
Review: In Chapter 4, we finally start to see the panic in the boys eyes. The boys start seeing things and many cry everyday because they miss home and their families. Jack still hadn't given up on the idea of killing a pig, so he and all the choirboys prepared for hunting by disguising themselves. While Jack and the choirboys were off hunting, a ship passed the island. Because the choirboys and Jack had gone hunting, they had left the fire unattended, therefore letting it burn out. Because the ship couldn't see the smoke, it couldn't rescue the boys. Ralph was beyond angry with Jack. Meanwhile, Jack and the choirboys came back chanting in excitement because they had finally killed a pig. Ralph let Jack brag and then scolded him for leaving the fire unattended. While the boys ate, Jack bragged some more but Ralph couldn't take it any longer, so he called for a meeting even in the darkness of night.
