Predictions: Jack is going to try and kill a pig, but fail because he gets to scared. No one will ever come and rescue the boys because their smoke signal won't burn long enough.

In order to kill a pig, Jack needed a weapon so he made a spear.
One of the boys first priorities was to build shelter so that they would have a place to spend the night. Here, Ralph and Simon spend time making a shelter.
While Simon was out exploring, he came across some type of plant shelter that contained a flower called the candle flower, similar to the one's shown here.
Clarify: Simon and Ralph are frustrated because no one is helping them build the shelters like they said they would. The little kids scream and are scared because the island isn't safe, there are no adults, and they all miss their parents.
Try: What happened to the little boy that was lost in the fire? Why isn't anyone helping build the shelters or search for food? What shelter did Simon find? What happened in Jack's past that makes him so passionate about hunting?
Use: I understand how Jack feels because his passion for hunting is the same as mine for volleyball. Jack just wants to be good at hunting and he wants to prove to everyone, especially himself and Ralph, that he can do it. Just like Jack, I strive to be the best I can be at volleyball and I want to prove to everyone who doesn't believe in me that I can do it.
Review: Chapter 3 begins with Jack trying to kill a pig, but sadly he fails and only injures the pig. Meanwhile, back at camp, Simon and Ralph were building shelters for all the boys but no one else was helping them. Later that afternoon, Ralph and Jack get into an argument about hunting and building. Simon got fed up with the fact that no one was helping with the shelters, so he stormed off and found a small litter area that was quiet, despite the faint sounds of the island.
