Predictions: Ralph is going to get really sick and die from all of his wounds. Jack and the other boys won't stop killing because they have no boundaries; they no longer have a conscience to help them make make decisions/choices between right and wrong. Jack is going to find and kill Ralph without having any mercy.
Images:
When Ralph smelled the roasting pig that Jack and his boys had killed, his taste buds went crazy and he started to drool.
To help Ralph out, Samneric gave Ralph a stick sharpened at both ends.
A British naval officer, similar to this one, rescued the boys from the island.
Clarify: Ralph made the comparison between Bill and a boy with shorts and a t-shirt because while on the island Bill had stopped being Bill. Bill had transformed from a normal, civilized human being to a dirty, crazy lunatic who no longer had feelings or a conscience. Bill had become a savage without a heart or a brain. Therefore, he had become just a boy with shorts and a t-shirt.
Try: Why is Ralph in denial of what had happened? Will anyone ever rescue the boys? Is Ralph going to die? How did the tribe hurt Samneric? What is Jack going to do to Ralph when he finds him? What does this mean, "a stick sharpened at both ends"? Why would one of the twins tell Jack where Ralph was hiding? What noise did Ralph hear? Why did they boys set the forest on fire?
Use: When Ralph felt like an outcast, I immediately knew what he was talking about. When I came to Paw Paw freshman year, I only knew one person, so it was really hard for me to fit in right away. They already had their friend group and I was the "new girl". Being the outcast is one of the worst feelings you can have. There is nothing worse than to not be included and being the only one to not have friends.
Review: In Chapter 12, Ralph wanders aimlessly around the island because he has no where else to go. His injuries were very bad from where Jack had hit him with the spear. He had to make very cautious movements in fear that Jack would find him and kill him. When night came, Ralph spotted Samneric and was able to talk to them for a little while. Samneric told Ralph that he needed to leave because Jack and Roger had something horrible planned for him. So, Ralph hid but the next morning was found by Jack and all of the other boys because one of the twins had told Jack. Thankfully, Ralph was able to get away but barely and as he was running he realized that the forest had been set on fire by Jack so that they could easily capture and kill Ralph. With smoke in his lungs, he eventually reached the beach to find a British naval officer. They had seen the smoke and someone had finally rescued them. When the officer came to the beach to retrieve the boys, he became very disappointed to hear about what had happened while the boys were on the island.
